2011 Composition Winner

The Alabama Orchestra Association is pleased to announce that Sean P. Pallatroni is the 2011 winner of the annual composition contest. His original work, When the Grass Was Still Green, was premiered by the Festival Orchestra at the All-State Orchestra Festival held February 10-13, 2011.

Sean Pallatroni (b. 1987) is a young composer from Bedford, New Hampshire. He has studied performing arts at the Derryfield School under the direction of Laurel Devino and completed his undergraduate degree in Music Composition at the Hartt School of Music Dance Theatre (University of Hartford, West Hartford, Connecticut). Sean has written for musical theatre, classical chamber ensembles, jazz, choir, and orchestra. He has studied composition under Dr. David Macbride, Dr. Larry Bell, Dr. Stephen Gryc, and Dr. Ken Steen. He has also coached and musically directed several shows in the southern New Hampshire and Hartford Connecticut areas. Sean has also composed musical underscoring for the 1922 silent film “Hungry Hearts” for the 2010 Hartford Jewish Film Festival, and has done work scoring shows for Connecticut Public Television. Sean is also the recipient of Hartt’s “Edward Diamente Award for Distinguished Undergraduate Composition.”
